
Born on 10 May 1947 in Munich;
divorced, two daughters.
In
1966 obtained Abitur (school-leaving certificate giving right of entry
to university) at the municipal Luisengymnasium grammar school;
then studied mathematics and physics at the Technical University in Munich.
From
1971 to 1976 worked as a programmer at Siemens and then at the
Waldhof
- Aschaffenburg (PWA) Papierwerke, a company producing paper and
packaging products, in Raubling.
Subsequently housewife until 1991 (birth of daughters Sylvia and Sandra in 1976 and 1979).
From 1991 worked as a teacher under the educational assistance scheme of the
Diakonisches Werk in
Rosenheim.
From 1992 to 1993 self-employed publisher of a monthly county newspaper.
In 1994 taught at a private commercial school.
Member
of numerous organisations, including the Metalworkers Union (IG
Metall), the National Association for Workers - Welfare (
AWO), the
German Federation for Environment and Nature Conservation (BUND), the
Rosenheim Women's Helpline foundation and the association "Show Your
Face! Campaign for a Cosmopolitan Germany".
Joined the Social
Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) in 1977, and has since held various
posts within the party, including the position of chairwoman of local
and subdistrict branches; since deputy chairwoman of the Upper
Bavarian district branch of the SPD until 2005. Member of Raubling municipal
council (
Rosenheim county) from 1983 to 1994; county councillor from
1989 to 1995.
Member of the German Bundestag since 1994. Member
of the Committee on Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth,
and the Committee on Human Rights and Humanitarian Aid; substitute
member of the Committee on Transport, Building and Housing.

on Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth in SPD parliamentary group in the Bundestag and Spokeswomen in
the Working Group on Senior Citizens in the SPD parliamentary group in
the
